A geek’s workout

Published by seanryan at 9:23 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

The trouble with both writing and playing video games for the majority of one’s day is that it doesn’t offer much opportunity for exercise. I like to use my DS or PSP whenever I do get to work out, but the chilling winter weather has shied me away from going for my usual walks or visits to the gym.

I wish there were more that I could do at home, other than the usual sit-ups or jumping jacks. Wii Fit would be great, except I don’t own a Wii nor a sufficient TV to play it on. There’s always DDR, but I’m pitifully uncoordinated.

Now that we’ve survived this most recent snowfall, I’ll brave the elements.

This may sound strange, by playing standing up actually is a good health idea. You’re more likely to move around stood up, and while it doesn’t get your heart rate up, it’s better than nothing :)

That actually doesn’t sound strange at all. I remember reading about some study from years ago that claimed that playing games while standing is equal to walking 1-2 miles per hour.

I just don’t remember if that’s in terms of burning calories or if it refers to blood pressure. If it was for blood pressure, I’d sooner say that it’s more related to stress than exertion.
